Bonnie Klein talks about how her stroke and rehabilitation have changed her views about gender and class differences. Where she used to be an avid feminist, her experiences of friendship and help since her stroke have made her see that dividing people according to gender is not always a useful way to see the world.
It may be cliche, but cliche's are usually there for a reason. People are people, no matter what they look like. There are good and bad women, good and bad men, good and bad white people, good and bad black people. There are good and bad disabled people, and good and bad geniuses.
I wish people would quite classifying others by anything other than what a person does as an individual. I personally have a problem with the word "feminism' in itself. Because it likely means something different to everyone. To me, it simply means that I am not judged according to what plumbing I have, but according to what I can accomplish. Whether I am a cook and a man can cook better or worse than me, does not matter. We ought to be judged on how well we can cook. I ought to be paid according to my skills. Similarly, I do not expect to be a firefighter. Simple logistics would preclude me from doing the job as well as a man who has twice my physical strength. I would not dream of taking a job from another human being who can do it better than I can and expecting standards to be lowered for me. I expect what is due me according to what I am capable of. If I better at something, pay me more.
On the other hand, I believe children have suffered greatly from parents being gone from the home. Personally, I believe both the mother AND the father ought to able to stay home and raise children - while working land and building a home and raising food. Whatever someone is better at, divide up the chores that way. There is an awful lot of foolishness people mess with that is completely unnecessary. I'm glad she softened her unfair view of men. Yes, you can generalize people, but when you do, you lose an awful lot of good ones.
I agree with many of the points made in this article. They are made in a thoughtful and interesting manner. This is really interesting reading. health insurance in texas
