Ratihente High School, Kanesatake
This video was produced by Secondary 5 students at Ratihente High School in Kanesatake who took part in one of a series of media literacy workshops offered to community groups in English-speaking communities throughout the province. Citizenshift visited 5 regions - Gaspésie, the Magdalen Islands, the Eastern Township, Outaouais and Kanesatake - to present a one-day training session on media literacy.
For this final workshop, CitizenShift travelled in late March of 2011 to Kanesatake to work with their Media class and train the youth with a hands-on workshop in basic video production and editing. The themes raised ranged from drug abuse to protecting the environment to bullying, difficult subjects which they tackled with incredible energy and creativity. This video is the result - a first foray, for many of the participants - into the world of media creation, produced with the basic tools on hand.
This workshop was organized with the generous collaboration of the CEDEC, the Kanesatake Human Resources Office, and Heritage Canada.
