With rising poverty rates across Canada and much of the industrialized world, this is an increasingly popular theme. A look at the increasing gap between the haves and have-nots through media projects and poems from people who want to see poverty and homelessness become a thing of the past.
As over half the population of Mumbai lives in slums, the regularization of slum tenements is a major election issue. In the 2009 elections, the Maharshtra State government decided to regulaize all slums established until the year 2000. In other words, slums built after that, or those who would have been under the "cutoff" but had their homes demolished before the regulation was implemented are to face further evictions and demolitions.
