St. George's High School students
Megan Webster
St. George's High School students in Montreal take questions from the audience after the premier screening of their documentary film 'Life in the Open Prison'.
Making use of life story interviews to understand more about the Cambodian genocide, high school students explore what it takes not only to survive in even the most extreme situations, but to go on and thrive in the future. 'Life in the Open Prison' was imagined, created, directed, scored and edited by students seeking to explore how people make meaning from trauma. In the film, survivors describe their experiences as meaningful opportunities to transform suffering into 'diamonds', illustrating not only the impacts of war, but the awesome resilience of the human spirit.
