PROJECT MEDIA

From April 7th 2008 to August 2008, 6 young adults between the ages of 16 and 30, (who are out of school and without income) will participate in Project Media, a program designed to provide them with the skills, tools and information necessary to make a successful transition to the workplace or school system.

 

OBJECTIVES


·    to link participants to  existing community services, educational and cultural institutions

·    to develop pre-employability skills through media workshops

·    to develop transferable skills from each metier

·    to spark an interest in further education and employability.

 

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

Through workshops and outings, the participants will be introduced to resources that will assist them with their life choices: personal, educational and career.

  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Basic French
  • Digital Media Skills


 

Structured task-based workshops focusing on new media:

          1.  Radio and sound (April 14th-June 13th) with Phyllis Lewis (8 weeks)

          2.  Video and digital media (June 23rd-Aug.15) with Janice Dayle (8 weeks)

 

The group will produce short weekly broadcasts and a final product, an hour long program that addresses a specific community-related issue. They will learn hands-on skills in production from A-Z (see detailed lesson plan) The final product will be presented to the community. Participants will collaborate with professional mentors (Phyllis and Janice) as well as staff and volunteers from community partners.

 

Employability Skills

Workshops will be offered by the Carrefour Jeunesse Emploi Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (CJENDG), and Youth Employment Services (YES) and will pertain to topics such as creating a CV, job interview techniques, workers rights and job search techniques. The project coordinator will offer interactive workshops on how to run a meeting and participants will assist in an Advisory committee meeting where they will be responsible for producing the minutes.  Participants will also visit local resources that will assist them with their job search process such as the Centre Local d'Emploi

 

Social Skills and Personal growth:

Workshops on conflict resolution, healthy lifestyle choices and group dynamics will be provided by Head and Hands.  Through a series of group exercises, participants will develop an awareness of the dynamics involved in conflict styles, setting boundaries and how they impact their relationships with others.
